Polyacrylonitrile or acrylic (PAN) is a semi-crystalline synthetic polymer with the linear formula C ₃ H ₃ N) _n ).

Polyacrylonitrile monomer is composed of vinyl cyanide or acrylonitrile.
Acrylonitrile can be prepared by the following industrial methods:

1. Combining ethylene oxide with cyanidric acid
2. from the combination of acetylene with cyanidric acid
3. from the combination of acetaldehyde with cynidric acid
4. Sohio method: In this method, propylene is converted to acrolein by oxidation and then ammonia is added to it. The resulting ammonia complex is dehydrated and hydrogenated and acronitrile is prepared./ Source
