What is Polypropylene (PP)?
Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic composite polymer made from a combination of propylene monomers. It is used in a variety of applications including packaging for consumer products, plastic parts for various industries including the automotive industry, special devices such as live hinges and textiles. Polypropylene was first polymerized in 1951 by a pair of Phillips oil scientists named Paul Hogan and Robert Banks, and later by Italian and German scientists Natta and Rehn. This seemed very quick, as commercial production barely lasted three years, after Italian chemotherapy professor Giulio Nata first polymerized it.
Natta completed and synthesized the first span polypropylene resin in 1954, and the ability of polypropylene to crystallize caused a stir. By 1957, its popularity had exploded and widespread commercial production began throughout Europe. Today, it is one of the plastics produced in the world. “> Source
